The American Dream

THE AMERICAN DREAM.

There is a lot of negativity today. I want to focus a SERIES of posts on THE AMERICAN DREAM.

I came to New York City in 1968 just like an immigrant. But with the Advantage of a college education.

I was fortunate enough to have many mentors in my life and career.  All have helped me achieve the American Dream. Each one of those mentors taught me lessons and shared their secrets of how to be a person who can accomplish things others can not, stand out, and lead by setting a good example.

Donald Trump is mentoring all of us and reminding us never to give up on THE AMERICAN DREAM.

I am sharing Twenty-six of my MENTORS in profiles.  Each has lessons they shared with me...and you can learn from these profiles to pursue your American Dream.

MENTORS.SFBDG.COM

No virus, no country, no extreme ideology can stop people or us. We are Americans with a Dream. There are opportunities for all of us...and there is Freedom for us to speak our minds fearlessly and worship as we wish.

THE AMERICAN DREAM  PART 2:

The American's Creed

THE AMERICAN'S CREED

I do not choose to be a common man.

lt is my right to be uncommon.

I seek opportunity to đevelop whatever talents God gave me not securlty.

I do not wish to be a kept cltlzen, humbled and dulled by having the state look after me.

I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to bulld, to fail and to succeed.

I refuse to barter lncentive for a dole.

I prefer the challenges of life to the quaranteed existence; the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopla.

I wll not trade freedom

for beneficence nor my dlgnity for a handout.

I will never cower before any earthly master nor bend to any threat. It Is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid; to think and act myself, enjoy the benefit of my creatlons and to face the world boldly and say:

"Thls, with God's help, I have done"

All this ls what It means to be an American.

THE AMERICAN DREAM PART 3

UPWARD MOBILITY

In the American Dream, there is upward mobility for everyone willing to work hard and to be optimistic.

In The American Dream, the deck is fixed to reward people who work hard and have optomism.

There is a wonderful childrens' book, "THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD"

"The Little Engine That Could is an American folktale (existing in the form of several illustrated children's books and films) that became widely known in the United States after publication in 1930 by Platt & Munk. The story is used to teach children the value of optimism and hard work. Based on a 2007 online poll, the National Education Association listed the book as one of its "Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children".[1]" ~Wikipedia

In the tale, a long train must be pulled over a high mountain after its locomotive breaks down. Larger locomotives, treated anthropomorphically, are asked to pull the train; for various reasons they refuse. The request is sent to a small engine, who agrees to try. Despite the steep climb and heavy load, the engine slowly succeeds in pulling the train over the mountain while repeating the motto: "I-think-I-can".

The story's signature phrases such as "I think I can" first occurred in print in a 1902 article in a Swedish journal.[2] An early published version of the story, "Story of the Engine That Thought It Could", appeared in the New-York Tribune on April 8, 1906, as part of a sermon by the Rev. Charles S. Wing.[2]

So it is with ALL THINGS that are part of The American Dream.

It is in America where working hard as a child and young adult in classrooms and after school shapes your life through EDUCATION that sets a foundation.  EDUCATION propels the American Dream.

The LADDERS OF LIFE then open for SUCCESS.

In America, we learn that hard work and being responsible makes it possible to be attractive as a life mate. To start a family. To buy a car, a house, furniture, travel, have hobbies, and practice whatever religion and faith in God that you chose.

Our US Constitution protects The American Dream including The Bill of Rights.

Hard work and optomism opens doors for higher income and promotion.

As you climb the LADDER OF LIFE and of the America Dream, you have opportunitis to create and become an entrepreneur.

No one can take The American Dream out of America.

Read THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD to your children. Buy a dozen copies and give them to young mothers. Spread the word. "IF I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN DO IT TOO!"

THE AMERICAN DREAM LIVES IN ALL OF US. PART 4

LADDERS OF LIFE

THE AMERICAN DREAM LIVES IN ALL OF US. PART 4

The American Dream is stronger than ever after Covid.

Today Americans breathe again. I can feel it. I can see it. We will innovate and use our unbelievable ingenuity. We will build new factories. We will use our advanced knowledge and technology to be stronger. Quality of life  will improve under A NEW ECONOMIC ENGINE that will unify the United States rather than the division we have been experiencing.

After Covid. Just as we were ready to emerge, the Ukranians reminded us that we must fight to protect our Ameican Dream and to protect our Freedom.

Foreign ideology has invaded our country with clever means. No missiles attacked our city, but the objective has been the same...to dismantle our governing principles, moral infrastructure, and our institutions.  Covid is not the cause, it was just a convenient crisis.

I also know that we will learn from this experience with this virus and ALL that it has revealed.

We are industrious and we are builders. We will finance and build new manufacturing that will add value to America and make us even more strategic and stronger.

Jobs will come home. Quality of life will improve for every community.

Why? Because the American Dream is worth fighting for and protecting.

That American Dream lives in all of us.

Beloved Dr. Roy Hastic, founder and presiding over the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry for 35 years, always reminded CACCI members to "Pursue your Dreams". He would say "Don't keep your dream to yourself."  Don't try to do it yourself. Others can help.

CACCI represents 28 Caribbean countries and the US citizens that came to the US to work hard to achieve their American Dreams.

He would say " Networking works", and that success takes "Collaboration, Cooperation, Partnership, Unity"

In life, you can have a dream!

Some men and women dream of landing on the moon.

Some dream of owning a football team. Others want to start or grow a business.

What makes a man or woman get up in the morning and say "I want to start a  business"?

What made Dr Hastick wake up and dream to build a Trade and Industry  Center for the Community ...and then have it become a reality.  TODAY,

255 Units of affordable homes and residential property with a

CACCI TRADE CENTER

Entrepreneur Business Center has opened in Brooklyn, New York.

Dr. Hastick showed by example that, in life, you can have a dream that becomes a reality!

255 residential Units plus a

CACCI TRADE CENTER and

Entrepreneur Business Center is open. AMAZING LEADERSHIP.

EVERYBODY HAS A DREAM

To achieve this, we need to know the resources available and put those resources to work for members and for residents.

Chambers of Commerce help to organize and make resoutces available for people with a dream.

It lived in me when I started my first business... and what followed.

These companies and properties  stand as symbols of bouncing back from adversity, and the dedication of hard working people and their accomplishments.

That same American Dream that my father and mother taught me to respect, is the American Dream that will drive us to recover from a temporary halt in our economy so that our families will be secure again.

Today, America breathes. The future is bright because we are who we are.

If I could do it, you can do it.

We can do it together. We are Americans and we share the American Dream.

THE AMERICAN DREAM IS ALIVE IN NEW YORK CITY. PART 5

THE CENTER OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND FREEDOM

The American Dream is alive in NYC.

PART 5

People came from all over the world to escape wars, tyrants, and for a better life.

This is WHY *NYC WILL COMEBACK*

NYC is the worldwide hub for:

● Imagination

● entrepreneurism,

● freedom...and

● relationships

Celebrate this.

NYC is the MECCA for the TALENT CLASS.

It feeds the minds  of people who need to CREATE ...to be ahead of everyone else.

I am a serial entrepreneur and that's why I thrive in NYC.

I came to New York City in 1969 to be a commercial artist and work in an advertising agency.  At the time NYC was the advertising, media,  marketing, and entertainment MECCA of the world. I came here because I wanted to be part of that. I believed in myself and thought I could do brilliant advertising campaigns for big brands.

A magazine's creative director wanted to hire me for cover design. The publisher who interviewed me, discovered that I had worked my way through college selling big ticket items. He insisted I take a job sellng  advertising for the magazine  A noble prifession at the time..

On my first day at work, my first boss told me in his first sentence, "Everything in business is about relationships"

EVERYTHING IN NYC START WITH CREATIVITY AND RELATIONSHIPS.

This is why top people from around the world want to come to MECCA.

THIS IS THE CENTER OF CREATIVITY

AND CULTURE.  THAT MAKES IT THE CENTER OF ENTREPRENEURISM AND FREEDOM.

CREATING VALUE TAKES VISION

VISION takes knowledge. NYC has been built to expose and transfer knowledge.

IN OFFICES AND HOTELS ACROSS THE CITY, THE FUSION OF KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, IMAGINATION, AND ENTREPRENEURISM IS CREATING A LIGHTENING STORM OF IDEAS. THE NEXT BIG THING COMES FROM THAT LIGHTENING STORM. TWENTY FOUR HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, THAT LIGHTENING STORM IS SETTING FIRE TO OLD IDEAS AND REPLACING THOSE OLD ONES WITH NEW ONES.

THE DEMAND TO BE PART OF THAT LIGHTENING IS WHAT CREATES THE UNDUPLICATEABLE VALUE OF NYC. IT CAN NOT BE REPLICATED. SOME MAY LEAVE, BUT THE PARADE OF NEW, INSPIRED TALENT WILL FILL THE VACANCIES.

GOVERNMENT TODAY IS NYC'S BIGGEST PROBLEM. IT DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF INCENTIVES. INSTEAD, IT DESIGNS DISINCENTIVES AND PUNISHMENTS.

THIS MUST CHANGE. THE PEOPLE READING THIS MUST INSIST ON SUPPORTING INVESTMENT NOT MAKING ERRORS OF JUDGMENT, AS WITH AMAZON HQ2.

BOTH PARTIES TO BLAME.

ROSENFIELD'S Hierarchy of Needs for City Recovery

#1 RETURN OF CONFIDENCE IN PHYSICAL SAFETY

     • Safe streets. SAFE Subways: and Neighborhoods

#2 RETURN OF QUALITY OF LIFE

#3 INTENSE FOCUS ON CHILDREN

     • LADDERS OF SUCCESS FOR CHILDREN

     • EDUCATION

#4  INCENTIVES. ENCOURAGEMENT. COLLABORATION AND ENCOURAGEMENT

     • Intolerance for drugs and crime

#5 WORK TO BUILD AND BE PART OF NYC AS A SENSE OF PRIDE

     • Homes, Community, and Culture to suport strong families.

#6 VOTE and ELECT a Government that Supports pursuit of happiness and business.

     • Path to a Relationship Pot

#7 Attract The Talent Class

#8 Attract Tourism and Business Meetings

#9 Access to Capital

#10 Lead and Govern by Example

We need to focus on WHY people want to come back to NYC, not constantly feed the open arms of Florida, Tennessee, Texas, and South Carolina.

DEMAND drives the VALUE of PROPERTIES and PEOPLE.

New York City is a BEACON OF OPPORTUNITY throughout the world.  The BEST, most talented people want to come here to be in the greatest concentration of talent on the planet.

It is the center of VALUE CREATION for PEOPLE.

This DEMAND to be here is what creates a resilience in PROPERTY VALUE.

The talent class wants to be in NYC.  The financial class wants to be in NYC.

In February 2013 I hosted and ran a two day Community Symposium for stakeholders to learn about PLACE-MAKING. I followed it with a series of "BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS" and Luncheons over the following months. The impact of this was huge.

It's the people who say "I want to be at the top of that list". "I want to be with the people who are at the top".

It is leaders like those in CollabNet, organized by Harry Dublinsky, who will make a stronger voice to unite those with a stake in VALUE.  The stakeholders of the city are key.

That's what creates the best restaurants and theatre. This is also the basic driver of tourisms to NYC.

That is what I helped to do in Long Island City / Astoria through the Chamber of Commerce I founded there. Through PLACE-MAKING that I brought to LIC with help from David Wilk, we created "a story" that resulted in the LIC’s RENAISSANCE…and a major new skyline along the East River.

In 2013, when I ran those series of Symposiums on Place-making and social value creation in Long Island City, there were just the Citicorp and Citylights buildings there.  The lesson learned was that you could bring stakeholders together and create a story that attracts investment and the talent class. We are at a point in time when CollabNet business leaders and professionals can facilitate this same positive inertia to accelerate the rise of NYC from the incredible issues it faces.

That is why understanding the importance of “PLACE-MAKING” and the “Creative Class” to driving real estate demand is essential today, since the most important decision in people’s lives today is where they choose to live. Communities that recognize this new market paradigm, and develop innovative real estate and “PLACE-MAKING” strategies targeting the “Creative Class,” will capture more than their fair share of future market demand, economic growth and new jobs.

As business leaders, consider these thoughts on property VALUE and the future of NYC with the attention being paid, and budgets being established to support the flood of illegal immigration…or can a government and city stakeholders manage both.

Here is an Interview of Arthur Rosenfield on PROPERTY VALUES today and WHY People want to Live and Work In NYC. About the  NYC RENAISSANCE. The interviewer is Mona Shah who specializes in EB-5.

https://mshahlaw.com/new-york-city-renaissance-with-arthur-rosenfield-episode-121/

It was recorded 2020 while I was President of the National Realty Club, and release on 9/11/2020 in the midst of the pandemic shutdown.

The points made are relevant and worth considering  today as we all try to grasp the impact of post pandemic and legislative changes in New York City.

New York City

Cenntral Park at West 72nd Street Entrance to Strawberry Fields

IMAGINE: PART 7

FAITH....THE AMERICAN DREAM DEPENDS ON IT!

💥 HAVE FAITH - THE AMERICAN DREAM DEPENDS ON IT! 💥

For most of my life, I would enjoy what French call "Mouget Day" (May 1st) with a walk in nature…a sort of communion. Mouget Day has been celebrated in France since 1561.

For over 30 years, that meant a walk in beautiful New York Central Park starting at the Strawberry Fields entrance where the IMAGINE COMPASS is embedded in the crossing of the entrance and walkways....just outside of the Dakota apartment where Beatle John Lenon was assassinated in 1980 by Mark David Chapman.

Today, sadly, Central Park is NOT SAFE for my annual walk throughout the park.

I started to think about other things that are NOT SAFE today, May 1, 2024.

What has the Dem-Progressive-Marxist party wrought upon this once "Greatest country in the world" known for its SAFETY!

Today, since it is May 1, I went for a walk along a road not expecting to find a lily of the valley.  I actually wrote an essay this morning about that at 6:00 am.

I found my lily and called my wife because I was so surprised. I had walked a few feet. She asked if I had a cup to bring it home. I didn't...but looked down along the road and guess what? There was a plastic cup.

I walked a few more steps up the road, and there was a steam running down the rock mountain.

Seriously.  At that moment The Shephards Prayer came perfectly to mind. Word for word,  exactly as I had learned it and not said it for 65 years.

Faith. God is never late and always with us.

When I was a child, in my school we pledged allegiance to the flag, then The Lord's Prayer, then the Shepherds Prayer.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:1-6

The American Dream is worth fighting for...and we are not alone.  God is always with us and God is never late.

We fought for our country and our American Dream before…and WON EVERY TIME.

TOGETHER, WITH FAITH, WE CAN WIN AGAIN.

God bless America and The American Dream.
